Torquay - Whites Beach

Whites Beach is a long, peaceful stretch of coastline on Torquay's northern foreshore, offering a quieter alternative to the town's busier beaches. Extending for almost 3 kilometres between Fishermans Beach and the mouth of Deep Creek, it is popular with walkers, beachcombers, dog owners, families and anglers seeking a more relaxed coastal experience.

Unlike Torquay Front Beach, Whites Beach is less developed and retains much of its natural character. The beach is backed by sand dunes and native coastal vegetation, providing an attractive setting for long walks and wildlife spotting. At low tide, the firm sand makes for an enjoyable stroll, while the open views across Bass Strait create spectacular sunrise and sunset photography opportunities.

The beach is particularly popular with dog walkers, with designated off-leash areas operating during permitted times of the year. The gentle slope of the beach and generally moderate surf also make it a pleasant place for paddling and swimming when conditions are calm, although visitors should be aware that conditions can change quickly.

Whites Beach forms part of the scenic foreshore shared path that links Torquay with The Sands estate and the Deep Creek estuary. Cyclists and walkers can enjoy uninterrupted coastal views while accessing picnic areas, playgrounds and nearby cafés.

Facilities include free parking, public toilets, beach access paths, shared walking and cycling path, picnic tables, grassed reserve, dog-friendly beach (seasonal restrictions apply), fishing and beachcombing. There are NO lifesaving patrols.

Surf Safety
Whites Beach is an unpatrolled beach. Although the waves are often smaller than those at Torquay Surf Beach, rip currents and changing ocean conditions can still occur, particularly during larger swells. Visitors should assess conditions carefully before entering the water, supervise children closely and consider swimming at nearby Torquay Front Beach or Torquay Surf Beach when lifesaving patrols are operating.
