Torquay Front Beach
Torquay Front Beach is one of Victoria's most popular family beaches, offering calm waters, golden sand and an attractive foreshore just a short walk from the cafés, shops and restaurants of Torquay. Sheltered from the larger ocean swells by Point Danger, it provides ideal conditions for swimming, paddling, stand-up paddleboarding and relaxing by the water.
Unlike the nearby surf beaches, Front Beach has gentle waves and a wide sandy shoreline, making it particularly popular with families and young children. During the summer months the beach is patrolled by lifesavers, while the calm conditions also attract beginner kayakers and paddleboarders. The beach is backed by a grassy foreshore reserve with picnic areas and mature Norfolk Island Pines, creating an inviting place to spend the day.
Cosy Corner, located at the western end of Torquay Front Beach near Point Danger, is the most sheltered section of the beach. Its calm waters make it especially popular with families, young children, stand-up paddleboarders and kayakers.
A sealed shared path follows the foreshore, linking Front Beach with Fishermans Beach to the east and Torquay Surf Beach to the west. Visitors can enjoy an easy coastal walk, watch local fishing boats returning to the boat ramp or admire spectacular sunsets over the bay. The beach is also one of the best places to begin exploring Torquay's waterfront.
Families will appreciate the nearby playground, public toilets, picnic facilities and cafés, all within easy walking distance. The combination of safe swimming, excellent facilities and a vibrant foreshore atmosphere makes Torquay Front Beach one of the Surf Coast's premier destinations.

Surf Safety
Torquay Front Beach is one of the safest swimming beaches on the Surf Coast thanks to its sheltered location behind Point Danger, which protects the beach from the larger ocean swells. The generally calm conditions, shallow water and gentle waves make it especially popular with families and young children. The beach has a moderate hazard rating of 4/10, considerably lower than nearby Torquay Surf Beach.
During the summer season, Life Saving Victoria lifeguards patrol the designated swimming area in partnership with the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority. Unlike Torquay Surf Beach, Front Beach is not patrolled by the Torquay Surf Life Saving Club's volunteer patrols. Patrol times vary throughout the holiday season, so visitors should check the current patrol information before swimming.
Although conditions are usually calm, beachgoers should still swim between the red and yellow flags whenever patrols are operating, supervise children at all times and be aware that waves, tides and weather can change quickly. The beach's protected waters make it an excellent choice for families, beginner swimmers and stand-up paddleboarders.
