Guide to Croquet Clubs in Victoria

Guide to Croquet Clubs in Victoria

Croquet is a traditional lawn game combining accuracy, strategy and friendly competition. Victoria has croquet clubs in Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula, Geelong and regional towns, with many clubs offering social play, competition and opportunities for beginners.

Golf Croquet is generally the easiest form for newcomers to learn. Association Croquet involves longer tactical turns, while some clubs also play Ricochet. Clubs often provide mallets for beginners, although participation, suitable ages, days and visitor fees vary. Contact the club before visiting to arrange a Come and Try session.

Trying Croquet for the First Time

Croquet is suitable for a wide range of ages and fitness levels. The game combines gentle exercise with concentration, tactics and social interaction. Many clubs welcome people who have never played before.

Wear comfortable clothing and flat-soled shoes to protect the lawns. Ask whether equipment is available, if there is a beginner session, and whether children or visitors can participate. Arrive before the advertised start time so players can be organised into games.

Playing sessions can change due to weather, lawn maintenance and tournaments, so check with your chosen club before travelling.
