Yarra Valley Zoo (Mount Evelyn)
Yarra Valley Zoo is a small, privately operated wildlife park in Mount Evelyn, on the edge of the beautiful Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges. Formerly known as Yarra Valley Nocturnal Zoo, the attraction offers intimate guided tours where visitors can get close to a fascinating collection of Australian native animals.
The zoo is home to more than 450 animals, including koalas, kangaroos, wombats, dingoes and a variety of other Australian wildlife.
Unlike larger zoos, Yarra Valley Zoo focuses on small-group experiences, allowing visitors to learn about the animals from knowledgeable guides and enjoy memorable wildlife encounters.
Guided Wildlife Tours
Guided tours last approximately 1.5 hours and offer opportunities to see and learn about the zoo's native animals.Highlights include:
- Meeting koalas and learning about their behaviour and conservation
- Opportunities to pat a koala
- Feeding kangaroos under supervision
- Seeing wombats, dingoes and other Australian wildlife
- Learning interesting facts about the animals from experienced guides
- Small-group tours with opportunities to ask questions and take photographs
Animal interactions are supervised and depend on the animals' welfare and availability.
NDIS Zookeeper Program
Yarra Valley Zoo offers a specialised NDIS-funded Zookeeper Program for participants aged 16 years and over.The program provides opportunities to learn animal-care skills, develop confidence, work as part of a team and gain practical life and employment skills in a supportive environment.
Participants take part in meaningful activities involving the zoo's animals and their daily care.

- Entry is by advance booking only
- Tours generally last approximately 1.5 hours
- The zoo is closed on weekends and public holidays
- Nocturnal tours are no longer offered
- Some areas have uneven and sloping ground
- Prams are permitted on tours but must remain outside animal enclosures
- Wear comfortable clothing and suitable walking shoes
