Jan Juc Beach

Jan Juc Beach is one of the Surf Coast's most picturesque beaches, renowned for its dramatic sandstone cliffs, golden sand and reliable surf. Located immediately west of Torquay, it offers a more relaxed atmosphere than the neighbouring beaches while still providing excellent facilities and easy access.
The beach is a favourite with surfers thanks to its consistent waves and expansive surf break. During the warmer months, the beach is patrolled by lifesavers, with designated swimming areas providing safer conditions for visitors. The wide sandy beach is also ideal for walking, beachcombing and simply relaxing while enjoying the coastal scenery.
Towering cliffs frame the beach, creating spectacular views from the lookout near the Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Club. The beach is also connected to the Surf Coast Walk, making it a popular stop for walkers exploring the coastline between Torquay, Bells Beach and beyond. Early mornings and evenings are particularly scenic, with the rising and setting sun casting warm colours across the cliffs.
The nearby Jan Juc village offers cafés, a playground and other visitor facilities within easy walking distance, making the beach an excellent destination for a half-day or full-day outing.
Facilities include free parking, seasonal lifesaving patrols, public toilets, outdoor showers, Surf Life Saving Club, lookout, beach access steps, Surf Coast Walk access, playground nearby, cafés nearby, picnic tables and dog-friendly areas nearby (seasonal restrictions apply).
Surf Safety
Jan Juc Beach is patrolled by the Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Club. Volunteer patrols operate every Saturday afternoon, Sunday and public holidays from late November until Easter Monday. During the peak summer holiday period (late December to late January), professional Life Saving Victoria lifeguards provide additional patrols on weekdays and Saturday mornings, resulting in beach supervision on most days.
Lifesavers monitor surf conditions, perform rescues, provide first aid and establish the red and yellow flagged swimming area. As Jan Juc Beach is known for strong waves and persistent rip currents, visitors should always swim between the red and yellow flags and only when patrols are operating.
