The Lake Daylesford to Tipperary Springs walk is 8km in length and has a medium grade (reasonable level of fitness required). The walk has water races, mineral springs, picnic/BBQ areas and views over a creek and gorge.
Getting There: From the Daylesford Information Centre, proceed south along Vincent St/Ballan Rd. and turn right up Bleakley St to Lake Daylesford. Park your car here.
Map of Walk

The Walk: Walk to the left along the Lakeside track, over the bridge, past the interpretive board, down the slope to the Central Springs mineral spring pumps. (Now is a good time to fill your water bottles with fresh mineral water).

At the Central Springs Reserve there is a lovely grassy reserve alongside the creek with unshaded tables and seats and a shelter with a table and BBQs, shady trees and three mineral water pumps (including one accessible pump) featuring stunning brass artworks by Timani Nicholls-Moore. Hard Hills Spring and Wagga Spring are nearby but are no longer functional springs.

Keeping the creek on your left, follow the track. It passes artwork "The Cottage" and then to the Sutton Springs which has hand pumps and an old pit (after 320m). From this point the track becomes narrower and traverses across the steep bank far above the creek which has lots of fallen trees and little waterfalls. Beside the track is a bright mossy wall.

Steps lead down to a gravel parking area where there is a bridge across the creek which leads to an alternative route back to Lake Daylesford on the south side of the creek (1.3km) and a connection to the Three Lost Children Walk. Ignore this for now and continue to the Midland Highway. Carefully cross the Highway and proceed to the Twin Bridges picnic area which is almost directly across the highway. This area has two unshaded picnic tables. Camping is not permitted here. Cross the creek using the rock steps towards Tipperary Springs (2.3 km).

Sailors Creek will be on your right. Walk through more open bushland along the water race and enjoy the elevated views of the creek and the gorge. Descend down the steps and cross the bridge into Tipperary Springs picnic area. Refill your water bottles from the pump. Note the difference in taste from the Central Springs mineral water. We think this water is the best tasting in the whole region. Toilets, two unshaded picnic tables and wood BBQ's are available here.
For a longer walk there is a 7km return Tipperary Springs to Bryces Flat Walk to the north.
Walk a short way up the bitumen road and turn right at the track indicated by the sign to Twin Bridges (2.3 km). The creek will now be on your right hand side. Approximately half way along this track there is a set of 56 steps to climb.

Follow the arrows back to the Twin Bridges picnic area. Due to storm damage (see below), this part of the walk on the east side of the creek cannot be done and you should retrace your path back to Bryces Flat.
Note: Due to significant storm damage, the Twin Bridges to Tipperary Springs (East side only) is closed until further notice. See here for updates. There is a steep part of the trail which is very slippery when wet next to a very steep drop-off. We would advise everyone to adhere to the closure of the trail for your own safety. As off mid 2026 the trail had been closed for a long time and there is no indication that it will be repaired any time soon.
When you get back to Bryces Flat, recross the Midland Highway (be careful). At the circular gravel area cross the creek via the bridge on your right. At the top of the steps, turn left and follow the water race towards Daylesford (1.3km). Initially the track is high above the creek and quite slippery when wet so be careful, although you are more likely to tumble into a tangle of blackberry bushes than all the way to the creek far below.
Pass by the Central Springs pumps. Cross the bridge in front of the falls and retrace your route along the side of Lake Daylesford back to the car park.

Notes:
Walk Safely: Always carry water when walking in the bush. Wear sturdy footwear, appropriate clothing and sunscreen. Stick to the track - keep well away from mine shafts and tunnels. Horses, trail bikes and bicycles are not permitted on the trail.
Access for Dogs:
Dogs are permitted on leash.
