Cowwarr Cows

Cowwarr, a rural community nestled at the foothills of the Southern Alps, has a rich history dating back to the Gold Rush era. There are a number of historic buildings but what truly sets Cowwarr apart is its whimsical collection of metal cow sculptures, creatively scattered throughout the town centre. These delightful bovine artworks, made from 44 gallon drums, pay tribute to Cowwarr's deep-rooted heritage in dairy farming, adding a touch of playful character to the community.

A Welding Working Bee in 2011 started the manufacture of these cows and now there is a massive herd.

Most of the metal cows are located along Main Street but there are cows in other locations such as along the road to Cowwarr Weir. There are even cows on the roof of some houses.
