Butterfield Conservation Reserve (Emerald)

Butterfield Conservation Reserve is a large area of protected forest, next to the Woori Yallock Creek which was a former logging and gold mining region.

The Butterfield Wildlife Reserve Walk which is 3km return starts from Emerald-Monbulk Rd, Emerald. You can park on Old Monbulk Road or Butterfield Road to visit the Conservation area. The chimney remnants of Bill Butterfield's cottage built in the early 1940's can be viewed at the start of this gentle and peaceful walk. Many of the walking tracks in this section of the hills follow the original trails which were constructed in the 1850s for visitors from Melbourne.

Immediately opposite the entrance gate is the Emerald Diggings Picnic Ground, and an access point to the Dandenong Ranges Tourist Track.
