Burnarlook Llamas and Hazelnuts (Gembrook)

Burnarlook Llamas and Hazelnuts (Gembrook)

Burnarlook Llamas and Hazelnuts is a small family-run farm in Gembrook, approximately 65 km southeast of Melbourne, offering visitors the opportunity to meet a friendly herd of llamas and pick their own hazelnuts during the harvest season.

Located in the picturesque eastern Dandenong Ranges, the property enjoys sweeping views across the Yarra Valley, surrounding forests and distant mountains.

Visitors can arrange a llama encounter throughout the year, while the annual hazelnut harvest provides an additional activity for families during late summer and early autumn.

Llama Encounters:

The farm is home to a herd of llamas with individual names and personalities. During a visit, the llamas are brought closer so guests can observe them and learn about these fascinating animals.

Depending on the animals' behaviour and comfort, visitors may have the opportunity to approach them more closely.

Llamas are naturally curious but can also be cautious, so interactions take place at the animals' own pace.

Pick Your Own Hazelnuts:

During the annual harvest season, generally from late February through March, visitors can collect fresh hazelnuts from the farm's established hazelnut grove.

Hazelnuts naturally fall from the trees when ripe, and visitors collect them from the ground.

The farm provides a 20-litre bucket for collecting hazelnuts, which can then be transferred into bags brought by visitors.

The experience provides an opportunity for children to discover where hazelnuts come from and enjoy a relaxed outdoor activity in a rural setting.
