Archery Activities and Clubs in Melbourne and Regional Victoria
Whether you shoot a bow like Robin Hood, Friar Tuck or Maid Marian, there are plenty of archery activities and clubs across Melbourne and regional Victoria. We have also listed places which offer archery themed birthday parties.
If you are interested in trying out archery, most clubs offer "Archery Come N Try" which has a low cost commitment and is the ideal way to experience archery and see if it is a sport for you.

Note: These clubs are target shooting clubs which are members of Archery Victoria and are not members of the Australian Bowhunters Association which hunts animals with bows.
The types of archery disciplines available at the clubs include:
Target - The most popular form of archery, in which members shoot at stationary circular targets at varying distances.
Field - The discipline of shooting at stationary circular targets of different sizes set at varying distances, heights and angles around a course of natural terrain.
Indoor - The discipline of shooting at stationary circular targets over a short distance inside a building. It is a variation of target archery.
Clout - A contest in which rounds of arrows are shot from long range at a very large circular target marked on the ground.
The three main types of bows are Recurve (the most tried-and-true bow type where both limbs curve away from the archer and the only bow allowed in the Olympic Games), Longbow (the simplest bow straight from the medieval era) and Compound (uses a system of pulleys, cams, and cables with modern materials to make power much easier to achieve).

Angel Archers (Balnarring)
Disciplines: Target, Field, Clout
The club which is located on the Mornington Peninsula can cater for most forms of archery excluding crossbows. A small but diverse and social club with a membership that includes people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.
Box Hill City Archers (Box Hill)
Disciplines: Target
The club, which is based at the North Oval, R.H.L Sparks Reserve in Box Hill runs beginner's courses regularly in the morning blocks of three consecutive weeks for adults and children from 10 years.
Southern Cross Archery Club (Braybrook)
Disciplines: Target
A small archery club located at Pennell Reserve in Braybrook. The club provides weekly introductory Come 'n' Try sessions, including equipment, and regular training and events for members.
Yarra Bowmen Archery Club (Bulleen)
Disciplines: Target
The club, which is located at Bulleen Park in Bulleen, conducts regular coaching programs designed to provide intending archers with instruction in safety, training in basic archery technique, use of club equipment and an opportunity to qualify as a target archer.
AIM Archery Club (Cheltenham)

The club offers Come 'N' try sessions, introductory courses over five sessions, group/one-on-one coaching sessions, 3D fun shoots, club handicap shoots, kids birthday parties, corporate parties and events and school programs.
Orion Archers (Cockatoo)

The club which is located at the Cockatoo Recreation Reserve runs "Come and Try" sessions.
Phoenix Archery Club (Cranbourne)

The family friendly club, which shoots at the Cranbourne Secondary College Stadium, is respected for their dedication to the development of junior archers and the support they give to archers of all ages and abilities.
Frankston Archery Club (Frankston South)

The club, which is based at Baxter Park, caters to all levels of archers from beginners to the more advanced competitor. 'Come and Try Archery' are held every Saturday morning. The age limit is 8 years old to 80 years old.
Heidelberg Archers (Heidelberg Heights)

Club members meet twice a week at Ambrose Archery in Heidelberg Heights.
Moorabbin Archery Club (Highett)

Victoria's largest target archery club with activities provided for all ages 6 to 80. There is permanent outdoor target range and an 18 metre indoor range which is open 7 days a week
Kew City Bowmen (Kew East)

The club, which is based at Hays Paddock, conducts a beginner's course nearly every weekend. Archers are welcome to attend casually to use the clubs equipment, ask for advice and test their skill against others. The club also hosts kids archery birthday parties which are good wholesome fun in the fresh air, offering light exercise with a test of skill and concentration with your friends.

Werribee Archery (Laverton North)

A target archery club catering for compound, recurve and longbow shooters located at Lawrie Emmins Reserve in Laverton North. 'Come and Try' sessions are available through the Indoor Centre at Arrows Plus in Point Cook.
Waverley City Archers (Mulgrave)

The diverse and social club, which is located at Freeway Reserve in Mulgrave, has a membership that includes people of all ages and from different walks of life. An introductory course is undertaken by all new archers. On completing the course you have the option of becoming a member. The club offers coaching for beginners from the age of 12 years onwards. Coaching is available for beginners and experienced archers of recurve, longbow and compound bow styles.

Sherbrooke Archery Club (Upper Ferntree Gully)

The club has excellent target and field archery facilities which has hosted major tournaments including a 10 target 'come and try' area.
Geelong Archers (Waurn Ponds & Lovely Banks)

The club has two outdoor target ranges and a picturesque 24 target field course. The club is based at two locations - Abe Wood Reserve in Lovely Banks (target and clout range) and Jarvis Oval in Waurn Ponds (target range and field course). The club has trained and official archery instructors who will help you in the beginners courses, as well as assist in improving your archery and the monthly club championship is a great way to improve your archery skills and get ready for competing in a tournament setting.

Archery Centres
Ambrose Archery (Heidelberg Heights)
Ambrose Archery in Heidelberg Heights is a 12 lane, 18m, indoor archery centre where you can learn, try, practice or buy. The centre is used by Heidelberg Archers Club. For when you want a birthday party a little different and definitely memorable, try a party at the centre.
Arrows Plus (Point Cook)
Caters to all things archery including an archery shop, bow maintenance workshop and an indoor range is available for shooting. Sessions available include a Taster Session which will introduce you to the sport, OzBow archery instruction courses, 'Shoot Like a Girl' program and coaching programs.
Archery Attack (Reservoir)
Arrow tag is an exciting activity conducted at an indoor Reservoir arena which is a hybrid between the classic game of dodgeball and the traditional sport of archery. There are public sessions, private sessions and kids parties.
Eliza Archery (Seaford)
Has an 18 meter indoor range, with 6 target butts and room for 12-15 archers on the line at any one time. Offers casual archery with your own equipment (no bookings required), membership, Intro to Archery course and private coaching.
Yarra Valley Archery Park (Launching Place)
An indoor all-weather archery range which offers fun for the whole family and friends. Beginners are welcome, all equipment is supplied and it is suitable for all ages with a qualified instructor. The outdoor course is used by members for a nominal fee.

There are archery activities outside Melbourne at the following locations.
Bairnsdale Archery, Mini Golf and Games Park (Bairnsdale)
Activities at the park include archery, mini golf, golf driving range, bungee trampoline, baseball/softball/cricket batting cage, merry-go-round, jumping castle, lawn bowls, skittles, spaceball, sand art, solar heated swimming pool, and various free novelty games, plus playground, barbeques, and shelter area.
Archery - After a quick instructional demonstration, participants complete the 9-target outdoor course using the bow and arrows provided. Scoring is optional for those who would like to test their skill and accuracy against their peers.
Combat Archery - Can be played with a minimum of 2 players up to 12 players, this game is a lot like dodge ball, although instead of balls you shoot each other with arrows that have foam balls on the end. There is a caged area with the arrows in the middle of the field. At the start of each game players race to collect them before firing them at one another across the playing field. A player is eliminated if struck by an arrow, and a player can bring an eliminated team mate back into the game by catching an arrow.
