Aireys Inlet - Split Point Lookout

Split Point Lookout offers one of the finest coastal panoramas on the Great Ocean Road. Located beside the historic Split Point Lighthouse, the lookout provides spectacular views over Bass Strait, the dramatic cliffs around Aireys Inlet, Fairhaven Beach and the surrounding coastline. The elevated position makes it an excellent place to appreciate the rugged beauty of the Surf Coast and one of the region's most photographed locations.

Completed in 1891, Split Point Lighthouse stands 34 metres tall and continues to guide ships along Victoria's south-west coast. Its distinctive white tower with red cap has become an iconic landmark and is widely recognised as the "White Queen." The lighthouse also gained national fame as the exterior filming location for the children's television series Round the Twist.

Several viewing areas around the lighthouse provide different perspectives of the coastline. Looking east, visitors can see Fairhaven Beach stretching towards Anglesea, while westward views extend towards Lorne. On clear days, the deep blue waters of Bass Strait contrast beautifully with the rugged cliffs and coastal heath. Between May and October, the lookout is also an excellent place to watch migrating Southern Right and Humpback Whales as they travel along the Victorian coastline.

The lookout is only a short walk from the nearby car parks and can easily be combined with a visit to the lighthouse, Eagle Rock Marine Sanctuary, Sandy Gully Beach or the Surf Coast Walk. Guided lighthouse tours are available on most days and allow visitors to climb the spiral staircase to the lantern room for even more impressive 360-degree views.
