Warrnambool - Victoria Park Orienteering Art Trail

Ten individually decorated concrete sculptures form an interactive art and orienteering trail through Victoria Park. The markers feature relief designs, pebbles, coloured glass, tiles and other decorative elements created by local students.

Each sculpture has carefully positioned viewing holes that help participants locate the next marker. QR codes provide compass bearings and access to digital material, including augmented-reality experiences and environmental animations.

The sculptures were designed and constructed by students from Merri River School and WAVE School with support from local artist Michelle Shearer.

Starting Point:

The official starting point is near the Warrnambool Water Tower, accessed from Hyland Street. However, the circuit can be joined at any of its ten markers.

What to Bring:

Bring a smartphone capable of scanning QR codes. A compass may also add to the traditional orienteering experience.

Review:

This is an unusual combination of public art, navigation and outdoor exercise. Finding the ten sculptures adds a purpose to exploring Victoria Park, while the varied decorations and digital content make the trail particularly engaging for children.

The markers are spread across the park’s open grassed areas rather than positioned along a continuous formed path. The ground may be uneven, wet or soft following rain.
