Warrnambool - Thunder Point Walk
The Thunder Point Walk follows Warrnambool's dramatic coastline between the Breakwater and Shelly Beach. The route passes the Merri River estuary, Stingray Bay, Thunder Point Coastal Reserve and Pickering Point, with extensive views across Lady Bay and the Southern Ocean.
From the Breakwater car park, follow the road towards Stingray Bay. At low tide, the sheltered beach can be visited before crossing the footbridge over the Merri River. The track then passes weathered sandstone cliffs, small bays, rockpools and coastal vegetation before reaching Pickering Point.
Continue along the road for approximately 100 metres and take the coastal track on the left. The route passes several lookout points and occasional steps leading towards the shoreline before finishing at Shelly Beach. Return along the same route.

Stingray Bay can be covered by water during high tide. Remain on the road when the beach route is affected and supervise children closely around cliffs, rockpools and the shoreline.
Access for Dogs:
Dogs cannot complete the full walk because they are prohibited at the Merri River mouth and in the Merri River Wetlands between Viaduct Road and MacDonald Street. Check the current Warrnambool dog-walking map and signs before visiting.
