Warrnambool - Pickering Point
Pickering Point is a coastal lookout within Thunder Point Coastal Reserve, offering extensive views across the Merri River, Lady Bay, the South Warrnambool wetlands and the Southern Ocean.
The lookout is surrounded by native coastal vegetation and overlooks the Merri Marine Sanctuary. Walking tracks connect Pickering Point with Stingray Bay, Thunder Point and Shelly Beach.
From the lookout there are almost 360-degree views. Lady Bay, the Warrnambool Breakwater and the mouth of the Merri River can be seen to the east, with the South Warrnambool wetlands inland and the rugged Thunder Point coastline extending west.
Pickering Point can be reached from Pickering Point Road or by following the coastal walking track from the Thunder Point car park. Much of the track is well formed, but some sections have steps, slopes and uneven surfaces.

The uneven terrain may be difficult for wheelchairs, prams and visitors with limited mobility. Supervise children closely near the coastline and remain on the formed tracks.
Access from Viaduct Road has previously been affected by the closure of the pedestrian bridge following coastal erosion. Check Council notices and signs before relying on this approach. Alternative access is available from Pickering Point Road or the Thunder Point car park.
Access for Dogs:
Dogs are prohibited at Pickering Point at all times, including dogs on a leash. The restriction protects Little Penguins, Hooded Plovers, migratory birds and other wildlife using Pickering Point, Stingray Bay, the South Warrnambool wetlands and the Merri Marine Sanctuary.
Opening Hours:
Open at all times, subject to temporary closures caused by coastal erosion, maintenance or severe weather.
