Warrnambool - Logans Beach

Logans Beach is a long, exposed ocean beach extending east from the mouth of the Hopkins River. It is internationally known as a nursery for Southern Right Whales, which can often be seen close to shore between June and September. The beach is also popular for walking, beachcombing, surfing and exercising dogs, but strong persistent rips make it unsuitable for family swimming.

Accessibility:

The whale-watching platform has ramp access suitable for wheelchairs and prams. Access to the beach involves stairs, sand and natural terrain and is not wheelchair accessible.

Safety:

Logans Beach is unpatrolled and has no lifesaving service.
Strong persistent rips occur along the beach, often spaced approximately 300 metres apart.
Reefs near the Hopkins River mouth can intensify the rips.
The exposed beach is subject to large waves, strong winds and rapidly changing conditions.
The beach is not recommended for family swimming.
Closely supervise children near the water and the Hopkins River mouth.
Use the designated beach access points and keep off fragile dune vegetation.
Observe fenced areas and signs protecting nesting shorebirds.

Access for Dogs:

Dogs are permitted off-leash at Logans Beach throughout the year. Dogs must remain under effective voice control, and owners must carry a lead and collect all waste. Keep dogs away from fenced shorebird nesting areas and place them on a lead near wildlife or when directed by signs.
