Warrnambool - Childers Cove

Childers Cove is a lovely sheltered, small beach with a bluff crossing the western end of the beach. It has a few reefs and one narrow sea stack just off the beach. The cove is normally a quiet place away from the crowds and is part of a dramatic series of coves with stunning rock formations.

There is a permanent rip which drains out of the cove and swimming can be dangerous unless you are very competent.

The 6km road is unpaved from the Great Ocean Road and the turnoff is about 20km before Warrnambool from the Melbourne direction.

The cove does not have any facilities such as toilets.

Surf Safety
Childers Cove is not a safe swimming beach. Powerful Southern Ocean swells, strong rip currents and heavy shore breaks can make the water extremely dangerous.

There are no lifesaving patrols at Childers Cove.
Swimming is not recommended.
Only access the beach when sea and tide conditions are safe.
Be aware that high tides and large waves can reduce the amount of beach available and cut off access.
Keep clear of the cliff base, as rockfalls may occur without warning.
