Warrnambool - Cannon Hill Lookout
Cannon Hill Lookout is an elevated reserve with panoramic views across Lake Pertobe, Lady Bay, the Warrnambool Breakwater and the Southern Ocean. The lookout can be reached from Merri Street or from the car park on Artillery Crescent.
Cannon Hill was the original location of Warrnambool's colonial coastal-defence cannons. The Warrnambool Artillery Corps was formed in 1866 and the original 80-pound cannons remained here until they were transferred to Flagstaff Hill in 1887.
At the eastern end of the reserve is a large replica Portuguese Padrao. The monument commemorates the legend that Portuguese navigators may have reached the Warrnambool coast before recorded European exploration. This idea is associated with the mysterious Mahogany Ship, reportedly sighted in coastal dunes west of Warrnambool during the nineteenth century. Busts of Prince Henry the Navigator and Vasco da Gama flank the monument.
Cannon Hill is also adjacent to the Warrnambool War Memorial and provides pedestrian access towards Lake Pertobe and the foreshore.

Access for Dogs:
Dogs are permitted on a leash. Dogs must remain under effective control and droppings must be collected.
