Walhalla - Cricket Ground Track Walk

The Cricket Ground Track is a short but steep bushwalk leading from the historic gold-mining township of Walhalla to one of Australia's most unusual cricket grounds, perched high above the town.

The cricket ground was constructed by local miners, who carved a level playing surface into the mountaintop because there was very little flat land available in Walhalla's narrow valley. The ground was completed in 1882 and became an important sporting and social centre during the gold rush.

The walk follows a steep, winding track through the bush. Interpretive signs along the route provide information about the history of the cricket ground and the people who used it.

Allow time to explore the historic oval before returning down the same track.

Distance: Approximately 2 km return
