Wahgunyah River Track Walk
The Wahgunyah River Track Walk follows the Murray River through magnificent old River Red Gums, floodplain bushland, vineyards and adjoining farmland. Interpretive signs along the route explore the district’s natural and cultural history.
The circuit also passes the historic John Foord Pioneer Cemetery. Local Aboriginal artist Tommy McRae lived nearby at Lake Moodemere for several years and drew scenes depicting Aboriginal life, ceremonies and interactions with settlers.
Walk Details:

Route:
- Start at the barriers on the boundary of Wahgunyah Football Oval and head south
- Continue straight at the walk and cycle sign near the netball courts
- Follow the trail through the Murray River floodplain and River Red Gums
- At approximately 2.2 km, turn left at the T-intersection onto the unsealed road
- Turn right onto O'Donoghues Road and then left onto Distillery Road
- Turn left onto Kilborn Road beside Cofield Wines
- Pass John Foord Pioneer Cemetery and continue to the pedestrian bridge
- Cross the bridge, turn right and follow the short path back to the car park

Access for Dogs:
Check local signs before bringing a dog. Dogs should be kept on a lead around the recreation reserve, shared paths, roads, farmland and wildlife.
