Stables Track Loop Walk (Mount Dandenong)

The walk starts from the Doongalla Stables Picnic Area, built on the site of the former stables that served the Doongalla Homestead. Although the buildings have long since disappeared, the area was once the operational hub of the estate, with a tramway terminating here to deliver construction materials for the mansion.
The picnic area has a car park, five picnic tables and some firepits. The toilets are permanently closed.
This pleasant 2.3km loop winds through towering Mountain Ash forest and lush fern gullies. Keep an eye out for superb lyrebirds, which are often seen foraging among the leaf litter. Note that there is a 10 minute section of the walk along Bill's Track which is very steep.
