Somerfield Drive North Pirate Playground, Keysborough

Somerfield Drive North Pirate Playground, Keysborough

Ahoy me hearties, I've sailed the seas of Keysborough and found a real treasure. Hoist the Jolly Roger because this awesome playground has a pirate theme. Can you scale the hill and reach the Crow's Nest? You can either use the long scrambling wall using a thick rope for assistance, make your way up along an inclined rope traverse or if the pirate bones are feeling a bit weak, pass the barrels of gunpowder and rum and climb the 13 steps - which is sure to be unlucky for any landlubbers who try and stop you getting to the summit. A ladder leads to the final lookout point with views across the whole playground. Getting down from these lofty heights is no problem for a pirate - take the pirate pole and then a big metal tunnel slide.

Down below on the raging seas are two bows of ships, each with a plank for sending mutineers to the briny depths. One ship's bow has some musical instruments (xylophone and drum) to play some sea shanties such as the Pirate Death Plank Walk. Keep an eye open for the four seals swimming along beside the ships and enjoying the battles.

There is also a four pirate see-saw, springer, birds nest swing (but no standard swings) and a donut ring at an angle which spins around. There is a good sized basketball court with soccer goals at each end and a small grassy area at the back. The whole area is thickly and luxuriantly landscaped with plants and bushes.

At the front is a big shelter with table, BBQ and water tap plus two unshaded tables and seats. There are toilets.

The pirate lair is located is a new housing area and you will need a good map to find our booty.
