Signage at Playground:
This is the story of Reg's family. It gave us the idea for our playground.
Reg is Aboriginal. His grandfather would find grassy bush plants with long skinny leaves. He would make them into baskets and eel nets and catch eels to feed his family.
Can you see any eels? Can you swim or crawl or swing through the hoops?
Stringybarks are a type of gum tree. Reg's ancestors would use the bark and the leaves to make string.
In our playground, there are two types of trees - Flame Trees and Manna Gums. When it is very hot, the Flame Trees drop their leaves just before they flower. Is it hot enough today for the flowers to open?
Reg's grandfather used the sap and the wood from the Manna Gums to make shields. Koalas and possum love to live in these trees.
Can you see any possums today? Can you smell the Manna Gums?
