Sapling Boulevard Playground, Tarneit

A tiny playground with birds nest swing, two standard swings, lotus leaf spinner with hand wheel and two suspended surfboards.
Shelter with table, unshaded seat and grassy area.
At the northern end of the reserve are the ruins of Doherty's House.

Conservation works are being carried out to the ruin at the Former Doherty's Road Homestead Complex, also know as Doherty House or Doherty's Ruin (Victorian Heritage Register # H7822-0833).
The subject site is listed individually in the Wyndham Planning Scheme (H036) as 'Doherty House', 1 Sapling Boulevard Tarneit. The listing includes the house, stone walls and their immediate setting. There is evidence of a brick well close to the house.
The site was bought by William Doherty, Councilor in 1877 and the house was built at that time. Although now ruinous, the bluestone house relate to the early years of pastoralism and farming in the Tarneit area and is historically important for that connection as well as being of interest for its connection to William Doherty, a well-known and long serving citizen of the early days of the Shire of Wyndham.
The house was a well-built large two storey structure and is of architectural interest for the quality and size of its construction but obtains a greater significance for its rarity in today's City of Wyndham for being in-bluestone, a more readily available local building material dating from the early period of Wyndham's development where there are now just a small number of these structures. The formerly two story bluestone villa is said to be the largest bluestone ruin in the municipality providing evidence of the intensity of farming development on the flat Truganina plains, and for its associations with several important local families.
The conservation works will include careful dismantling and reconstruction of sections of highly unstable walls, and the application of engineering interventions to stablilise leaning walls and chimneys. Furthermore, elements of the local bluestone will be cleaned, relaid, and repointed to retain the beauty of remnant house.
These works will serve to reverse-the recent and ongoin deterioration of the house and provide greater protection to the remaining elements, providing a positive heritage outcome to the place. In addition; the works will prevent ongoing environmental damage that has contributed to it's deterioration.
