Rutherglen - Lake King Walk
The Lake King Walk is a short and easy circuit around the historic lake beside Apex Park. The route provides opportunities to see local birdlife and several works from the Arts Rutherglen Sculpture Trail.
Lake King was formed during the late 1860s to supply water to Rutherglen. It was later used as a swimming pool, complete with a diving board and lighting, and was named after local bootmaker, vigneron and community member Daniel King.
The lake is stocked with Golden Perch, also known as Yellowbelly, and Redfin, making it a popular place for children to learn how to fish. Swimming is not permitted.
Walk Details:
- 1.2 km circuit
- Approximately 30 minutes
- Grade 1
- Sealed footpath and gravel path
- Starts and finishes beside the Apex Park playground
Route:
- Start at Apex Park beside the playground
- Head towards the lake and follow the path to the right
- After approximately 200 metres, take the path on the left closest to the lake
- Turn left at the seat to join the gravel path
- Continue around Lake King and pass the Lake King Lounge
- Finish back at the playground

Access for Dogs:
Check local signs before bringing a dog. Dogs should be kept on a lead and away from the lake's birdlife.
