Princetown - Saddle Lookout

The Saddle Lookout is the newest and most spectacular viewing platform at the Twelve Apostles. Opened in 2024, this striking cantilevered lookout extends towards the cliff edge, providing breathtaking views across the famous limestone stacks and the rugged Shipwreck Coast. It was built to replace older viewing areas, creating a safer, more accessible and more immersive experience for the millions of visitors who come to the Twelve Apostles each year.

Designed in partnership with the Eastern Maar community, the lookout's distinctive form represents two traditional clapsticks. As you walk along the gently sloping boardwalk, the coastline is briefly hidden before the Twelve Apostles dramatically come into view, creating a memorable arrival experience. The lookout also incorporates colours inspired by the Sulphur-crested Cockatoo and Red-tailed Black Cockatoo, two important Eastern Maar totemic species.

The Saddle Lookout is connected to the visitor centre by wide sealed pathways, making it suitable for wheelchairs, prams and visitors of all abilities. From the large car park, it is an easy 5-minute walk to the lookout, with several other viewing platforms and boardwalks nearby offering different perspectives of the Twelve Apostles and Gibson Steps.

Sunrise and sunset are the most popular times to visit, when the limestone stacks glow in shades of gold and orange against the Southern Ocean.
