Port Fairy - Pea Soup (South Beach)
Safe, small and super-fun. On the south side of Port Fairy, Pea Soup and South Beach are adjoining reef-protected, family-friendly beaches. Reach the sand with ease via any of three car parks with direct shore access. You could spend hours discovering curious creatures in the rock pools, building sandcastles and paddling in the shallows. Both beaches are relatively safe for swimmers, but keep an eye out for submerged rocks and holes, especially at high tide.
Ocean Drive follows the shoreline past a series of small sandy beaches protected by continuous basalt reefs located approximately 100 to 200 metres offshore. The reefs help create shallow lagoons and generally low waves at the beaches, particularly around low tide.
Pea Soup Beach is approximately 500 metres long and faces south. It adjoins a smaller, approximately 200-metre-long beach backed by dunes and sections of basalt seawall. The sheltered shallows, rock pools and sandy areas make the beaches popular for swimming, paddling, snorkelling, beachcombing and exploring with children.

Surf Safety:
Pea Soup / South Beach has a general hazard rating of 3/10. Although the offshore reefs usually produce relatively sheltered conditions, the beach is not patrolled by lifesavers.
Conditions vary with the tide, swell and weather. Watch for submerged rocks, holes and slippery reef surfaces, particularly around high tide. Children should be supervised closely, and visitors should check the latest Pea Soup / South Beach conditions before entering the water.
Accessibility:
Three car parks provide access close to the shoreline. Access onto the beach is over sand and may include uneven or rocky surfaces. Dedicated accessible beach access facilities are not listed.
Access for Dogs:
Dogs are prohibited on the beach between the South Beach car park and Powling Street from 9am to 6pm daily between 24 December and Easter Monday inclusive.
Dogs must also be kept on a lead within 50 metres of marked Hooded Plover nesting sites between Connolly Street and Anna Catherine Drive. Check signs at the beach and the current Moyne Shire beach restrictions.
