Port Campbell - Tom and Eva Lookout

Tom and Eva Lookout offers one of the most spectacular views along Victoria's Shipwreck Coast. Perched high on the limestone cliffs, the lookout overlooks the dramatic sea stacks known as Tom and Eva, which were formed by thousands of years of relentless erosion by the Southern Ocean. The viewing platform also provides sweeping coastal views towards Loch Ard Gorge and the rugged cliffs of Port Campbell National Park.

The lookout takes its name from Tom Pearce and Eva Carmichael, the only two survivors of the wreck of the Loch Ard in 1878. After the clipper ship struck nearby Mutton Bird Island during heavy fog, Tom managed to swim ashore and later rescued the 19-year-old Eva from the water. Their remarkable survival is one of Australia's best-known shipwreck stories and is closely associated with nearby Loch Ard Gorge.

A short, sealed walking track leads from the car park to the lookout, making it an easy stop when exploring the Great Ocean Road. Interpretive signs explain the area's geology and maritime history, while the elevated platform offers excellent opportunities for photography throughout the day.

Tom and Eva Lookout is usually visited together with nearby attractions including Loch Ard Gorge, The Razorback, Thunder Cave and Mutton Bird Island Lookout, all located within a few minutes' drive in the Port Campbell National Park.

Access for Dogs:

Dogs are not permitted in Port Campbell National Park.

How to Get There:

The lookout is located within the Loch Ard Gorge precinct, approximately 8 km east of Port Campbell and 4 km west of the Twelve Apostles. Turn off the Great Ocean Road at the large, clearly signed Loch Ard Gorge entrance. At the junction inside the precinct, follow the road to the left to reach the main Loch Ard Gorge car park.

Review:

This lookout is most easily accessed from the main carpark. A path which has the signage "Razorback 400m" leads to the south east for 160m where there is the Tom and Eva Lookout which overlooks the cove with two impressive sea stacks.

The track continues onto the Razorback Lookout.
