Peterborough Beach

Peterborough Beach is one of the safest and most popular family beaches along the Great Ocean Road. Sheltered by the headlands of Peterborough Bay, the wide sandy beach offers calmer swimming conditions than many nearby ocean beaches, making it a favourite destination for families, paddlers and beachgoers during the warmer months. The beach is located just a short walk from the township, with picnic areas, playgrounds and cafés all close by.

The beach stretches along the western side of Peterborough and features soft sand, shallow water near the shore and plenty of space for swimming, paddling, beach games and relaxing. At low tide, children can enjoy exploring the rock pools at either end of the beach, while anglers often fish from the beach or nearby rocks when conditions are suitable.

Surf Safety
Although Peterborough Beach is more sheltered than many beaches along the Shipwreck Coast, conditions can still change quickly. Waves, rip currents and strong undertows may develop during larger swells or rough weather.

There are no lifesaving patrols at Peterborough Beach. Avoid swimming near the rocky headlands, particularly during large swells.
