Paynesville - Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club
Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club is a sailing club on the Paynesville waterfront, overlooking McMillan Strait and the Gippsland Lakes. The club operates throughout the year, with regular sailing, learn-to-sail programs, junior activities, Sailability and major sailing events and regattas.
Learn to Sail:
The club provides opportunities for both children and adults to learn sailing. Dinghy sailing programs progress through introductory sailing skills to more advanced sailing and racing skills. Participants need to be proficient swimmers and should expect to get wet while sailing the small dinghies.Tackers is an introductory sailing program for children aged 7-12 years. The games-based program is generally run over five days during school holidays and no previous sailing experience is required. Tackers progresses through three levels - Tackers 1: Having Fun, Tackers 2: Tricks & Techniques and Tackers 3: Sailing Fast!
Sailability:
The GLYC Sailability program gives people of all ages and abilities, including people with disabilities, the opportunity to experience sailing. Sessions use Hansa 303 dinghies and volunteers assist with rigging and co-sailing, with a rescue boat on the water during the program. Sessions are normally held on Wednesday mornings during school Terms 1 and 4.Club Sailing:
Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club conducts regular racing and social sailing. The principal sailing season runs from October to May, with Sunday sailing as well as a winter series. Visitors who are already members of another yacht club may also be able to participate in the club's social sailing, while non-members can use a temporary Sailpass where applicable. Contact the club before visiting to arrange participation.The club also hosts state and national sailing championships and other major regattas on the Gippsland Lakes.
