Nowa Nowa - Boggy Creek Gorge Walk

The Boggy Creek Gorge Walk is a short but rewarding bushwalk leading to a lookout over the spectacular Boggy Creek Gorge on the northern edge of Nowa Nowa. This easy walk follows the upper banks of Boggy Creek through native forest before reaching a peaceful lookout where the creek plunges into an ancient rocky gorge on its way to Lake Tyers. It's an ideal walk for families, birdwatchers and travellers looking for a quick nature break while exploring East Gippsland.

The gorge has been carved into Devonian rock formations, estimated to be around 350 million years old, creating one of the region's lesser-known geological features. From the lookout you'll enjoy views across the rainforest-lined gorge, with stands of lilly pilly, blackwood, yellowwood and pittosporum providing habitat for a variety of native birds.

The Boggy Creek Gorge Walk forms part of the broader Nowa Nowa Walk network and begins beside the petanque court near the Nowa Nowa Community Health Centre. The route follows the old railway corridor past the disused railway bridge before climbing gently to the gorge lookout.
