Murtoa Cemetery
Murtoa Cemetery is a historic cemetery about three kilometres east of Murtoa, with recorded burials dating back to the 1870s.
The well-preserved cemetery reflects the early history of Murtoa and the surrounding Wimmera district, with graves recording the lives of pioneering families, periods of war and the many personal tragedies experienced by the community since European settlement.
One of the most significant features is a marble memorial seat created by local artist Steve Monk. Featuring a Madonna and Child motif, the memorial commemorates approximately 248 children who were stillborn or died as infants and were buried at Murtoa Cemetery.
