Murrabit Railway Heritage Trail and Walking Track

The Murrabit Railway Heritage Trail and Walking Track follows the route of the former railway line from Murrabit towards the Murray River and historic Murrabit Bridge. The 5.2km return walk provides an opportunity to combine a walk with some of the railway and local history that shaped the development of Murrabit.

Start/Finish: Lions Park, 28 Gonn Avenue, Murrabit

The walk starts near Lions Park, on the site of the former entrance to the Murrabit Railway Station and Shunting Yards. The railway station and yards opened on 19 December 1925 and closed on 19 December 1961. Murrabit developed around the Kerang-Stony Crossing border railway, which played an important role in the establishment of the township.

At Lions Park there is a heritage shelter containing historical information, together with a railway-themed playground, picnic facilities, BBQ and toilets. From here the trail follows the old railway route towards the Murray River and Murrabit Bridge, which opened in 1926 and was the first all-steel bridge installed over the Murray River between Victoria and New South Wales.
