Mount Buffalo - Lake Catani Lakeside Walk

Lake Catani Lakeside Walk is an easy circuit around picturesque Lake Catani on the Mount Buffalo plateau. The track passes through Snow Gum woodland and several different alpine plant communities, with wildflowers adding colour during the warmer months.

There are lovely views across the lake and opportunities to spot native birds and other wildlife. Lake Catani was created in 1910 and named after Victorian Public Works engineer Carlo Catani.

The walk can be started from Lake Catani Campground or the Lakeside Day Visitor Area.

The track has natural and uneven surfaces and is not suitable for wheelchairs or prams. Alpine weather can change quickly, so carry warm clothing, drinking water and sun protection.

The Lakeside Day Visitor Area can also be used for swimming, fishing and launching canoes or kayaks. There are no lifeguards, so children must be closely supervised around the water.

Access for Dogs:

Dogs are not permitted in Mount Buffalo National Park. Assistance dogs are permitted, subject to Parks Victoria requirements.

Vehicle access along Lake Catani Road may be closed during winter. When the road is closed, access to the lake is by walking or skiing approximately 1 km from the gate.
