Morwell - Eric Lubcke Yarra Gum Conservation Reserve

Eric Lubcke Yarra Gum Conservation Reserve is a small but important conservation reserve in southern Morwell protecting one of Gippsland's rare remaining Yarra Gum communities.

The 3.1 hectare reserve was established in 1992 and contains a significant population of Yarra Gum (Eucalyptus yarraensis). Yarra Gum has a very restricted distribution in Gippsland, with the reserve regarded as one of the region's most important remaining examples of this vegetation community.

The endangered Matted Flax-lily (Dianella amoena) has also been recorded within the reserve, adding to its botanical importance.

The reserve provides an opportunity to see a small remnant of the native vegetation that once occurred much more extensively across the Latrobe Valley before clearing, urban development and coal mining transformed much of the surrounding landscape.
