Meredith Education Area Camping Area

The Meredith Education Area camping area is a free camping area (no bookings required) in a scenic gorge near the Moorabool River. The area is managed by Parks Victoria.

Vehicle access to the campground is only via a 4WD vehicle since the road is steep and rutted. There is little room for camping except for some slight clearings beside the track.

Aside from a fire pit there are no visitor facilities at this campsite so campers must be self sufficient.

Be wary of snakes in the warmer months.

Possum Road and Moorabool River Loop Walk
There is a 4.3km loop trail begins on Byrne Road and travels down to the banks of the Moorabool River to a viewing and possible swimming spot. The trail then travels south past the Meredith Education Area Camping
Area and back to Byrne Road.

Access for Dogs:

Dogs are not permitted.

Review:

This is not a place we would recommend. The track down to the camping area beside the river requires a 4WD or a 2WD followed by a 550m walk down a steep descent. The Moorabool River has beautifully clear water but has lots of thick vegetation and / or steep banks down to the river. We didn't find it very good for swimming.
