Maude Viewing Platform

Maude Viewing Platform

The Maude Viewing Platform is dedicated to Bunjil and telling the story of the Wathaurung Aboriginal creation. The platform has been designed in the shape of Bunjil the Eagle and the carved structural poles for the viewing platform are a reflection of Bunjil and his spirit brothers.

The platform provides outstanding views of the Moorabool River Valley.

There is a playground, toilets, unshaded table and seats, wood fire pit with seats around it (BYO wood), a shelter with two tables and BBQ, overgrown bocce courts and grassy area.

There is a 48 hour maximum camping area. The camping site is free but donations are appreciated. All money collected is used for maintenance for the site.

Maude township was first surveyed in 1851. It was described as an area of fertile ground on a ridge between the Moorabool River and Sutherlands Creek, and was initially a resting stop for travellers along the route to the Ballarat and Steiglitz goldfields. Many orchards and vineyards were originally established but Maude later became a mixed farming area for dairying, cropping and grazing. Maude has now become popular for smaller lifestyle holdings due to its proximity to Geelong and Melbourne.

The viewing platform is located next to the Maude Recreation Reserve in Steiglitz Road.
