Lysterfield Lake Circuit Park Walk (Lysterfield)

The 5.5km Lysterfield Lake Circuit Trail is one of Melbourne's most popular family-friendly walks, offering a scenic loop around the picturesque Lysterfield Lake. Located within Lysterfield Park, the trail combines peaceful lakeside scenery with open woodland, native bushland and excellent opportunities to spot wildlife.

The well-formed gravel trail follows the shoreline for much of the walk, passing picnic areas, secluded bays, fishing spots and several lookouts across the water. Keep an eye out for kangaroos grazing in the surrounding grasslands, colourful birdlife and, if you're lucky, a resident echidna.

There are several places to pause along the way, including benches, jetties and beaches where visitors can relax and enjoy the views. During warmer months the lake is popular for kayaking, canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding and swimming in the designated areas, creating a lively atmosphere without detracting from the peaceful bush setting.

The circuit has a few gentle hills but is suitable for most walkers with a reasonable level of fitness. The surface is generally compacted gravel with occasional rougher sections, making sturdy walking shoes advisable.

The walk begins from the main beach and picnic area near the visitor facilities, where there are toilets, barbecues, picnic shelters, drinking water and ample parking. Visitors can easily combine the circuit with mountain biking, birdwatching, fishing or a family picnic to enjoy a full day in the park.
