Lorne Beach

Lorne Beach is one of the Great Ocean Road's most popular beaches, combining a magnificent crescent of golden sand with the vibrant atmosphere of one of Victoria's best-loved seaside towns. Stretching for almost two kilometres along Louttit Bay, the beach offers excellent swimming, surfing, paddleboarding, fishing and beach walking, all within easy walking distance of cafés, restaurants, playgrounds and shops.

The beach is sheltered by the headlands of Louttit Bay, creating generally gentler conditions than many nearby ocean beaches while still providing enjoyable waves for beginner and intermediate surfers. The broad sandy shoreline offers plenty of room for families, beach games and relaxing by the water, while the nearby Lorne Pier is a popular spot for fishing and sightseeing.

A landscaped foreshore reserve runs the length of the beach, featuring wide lawns, picnic areas, barbecues and a shared walking path. The foreshore is one of Lorne's main attractions and is busy throughout the year with visitors enjoying the beach, nearby cafés and regular community events.

Facilities include large public car parks, public toilets, outdoor showers, Lorne Surf Life Saving Club
Seasonal lifesaving patrols, playground, BBQs, picnic tables, grassed foreshore, Lorne Pier, boat ramp nearby, walking and cycling path, cafés and restaurants opposite the beach and beach wheelchair availability (seasonal).

Surf Safety
Lorne Beach is patrolled by the Lorne Surf Life Saving Club with volunteer lifesavers providing patrols throughout the summer surf lifesaving season. During peak holiday periods, Life Saving Victoria lifeguards also assist with beach patrols.

Although Lorne Beach is generally calmer than many nearby surf beaches, rip currents can still develop, particularly toward the ends of the beach and during larger swells. Visitors should always swim between the red and yellow flags, supervise children closely and follow the advice of lifesavers. The sheltered waters and extensive patrolled area make Lorne Beach one of the safer ocean beaches along the Great Ocean Road.
