Lismore Gathering Trail

The Lismore Gathering Trail is a community fruit-growing project established by the Lismore Progress Association. Residents grow fruit trees on their properties beside public footpaths, allowing walkers to explore the town and sample locally grown fruit.

Participating trees display colourful Gathering Trail labels. Walkers may pick one piece of ripe fruit from a labelled tree as they pass. Do not pick from unlabelled trees, enter private property or damage branches.

There is no prescribed route or fixed distance. The trees are scattered throughout Lismore, allowing visitors to create their own walk using the interactive trail map. Select the Gathering Trail layer; participating trees are shown using green tree symbols.

Fruit varieties shown on the map include:

Snow, Rokewood, Sturmer Pippin, Akane, Spartan and Summer Strawberry apples
Lapins and Stella cherries
Tilton, Trevatt and Moorpark apricots
President, Mariposa Blood and Santa Rosa plums
Goldmine and Fantasia nectarines
Springold and other peaches
Williams pears
Fourteen assorted fruit trees along the Lismore Primary School fence

Fruit availability varies according to the variety, season, weather and maturity of individual trees. Some of the trees are still young and may not produce fruit every year.

The main Gathering Trail sign is located in the grounds of Lismore Primary School near the corner of William Street and Cunningham Street. It shows the locations of trees throughout the town.

Facilities:

There are no dedicated facilities at the trailhead. Public toilets, picnic tables, a barbecue, playground and seating are available at Grimwade Park, Cnr Hamilton Highway and Gray Street.

Opening Hours:

The trees can be viewed from public footpaths at any time. Visit during daylight and only pick fruit from trees displaying an official Gathering Trail label.
