Koondrook Wharf
Koondrook Wharf is a striking contemporary wharf on the Murray River that reconnects Koondrook with its long history of paddle steamers, river transport and the local red gum timber industry. The present wharf opened in 2016, close to the site where Koondrook's first wharf was completed in 1882 and became an important trading point for river boats.
The $2.4 million wharf project includes a moored pontoon capable of accommodating paddle steamers, a 28m gangway and elevated viewing platforms extending into the tree canopy. Interpretation features throughout the structure help tell the story of Koondrook and its relationship with the Murray River.
The surrounding waterfront is a pleasant place to explore, with lawns, picnic facilities and connections to other Koondrook attractions and walking tracks. An in-ground artwork depicting a Murray Cod, created from slate and basalt, can also be seen at the wharf.
The wharf has received significant architectural recognition.
