Kawarren - Birnam Station

Picnic at an old train station under a canopy of eucalypts in the Otway Forest Park. This area is also the starting point for a pleasant short fern loop walk.
This shady and peaceful picnic spot is located at the site of an old train station in the Otway Forest Park. Have your outdoor lunch against a soundtrack of birdsong, echoing around the surrounding towering eucalypts.
Birnam Station was on the original Beechy rail line. The Beechy line, built in the early 1900s, was a narrow-gauge railway line that was used to transport timber, potatoes and passengers from Beech Forest and Lavers Hill North to Colac, up until 1960.
Portions of the original right-of-way have been developed as part of the Old Beechy Rail Trail, a 50km walking and cycling track that runs between Colac and Ferguson.
