Heyfield Wetlands

Heyfield Wetlands

The Heyfield Wetlands is a beautiful location with a small lake, ponds and an Information Centre.

Four kilometres of walkways with eight exercise stations and boardwalks have been built on the twenty eight hectare reserve. The Wetlands offers a place for people to enjoy walking, exercising, bird watching, fishing, photography and outdoor events.

Sitting beside the Information Centre is a barbeque, shelter and wheelchair-friendly picnic table for general use.

The Information Centre is run by volunteers (which means opening times can be variable but generally open Tuesday - Thursday 10am - 3pm) and can provide brochures, maps and booklets on what is available to see and do in the area. A variety of local art and craft can also be purchased.

Access for Dogs:

Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times.

Review:

There are many interconnected wetlands ponds, a large viewing platform, many bridges, four fitness stations, evidence of the old Heyfield Racecourse and many tracks. There are some designated walks but the best idea is to just wander about and make sure you include the lookout.

Heyfield Wetlands

We visited in late summer and the wetlands had lots of water and plenty of waterbirds.

Generally the area is well signposted with signage indicating the direction of walks (without walk names), information centre, viewing platform and Rail Trail.
