Harrietville - Places of Historical Interest


The most significant places of historic interest in Harrietville and the surrounding area are:
1. Pioneer Cemetery
2. Harrietville Primary School
built in 1866.
3. Tronoh Dredge Lake
created by the Tronoh Dredge in the 1950's. Largest gold dredge in the Southern Hemisphere.
4. Pioneer Park
exhibits of working water wheel, a log wagon, a sculpture of a gold panner and the Pioneer Gold Monument.
5. St Francis of Assisi's Catholic Church
moved from the Buckland Valley in 1923.
6. St Etheldreda Anglican Church
built in 1891 as Wesleyan, then 'Union' Church. Became Anglican on 2/5/1959.
7. Chinese Camp
active in the 1960's, evidence of camp and sites still to be seen.
8. Big Mill Site
Gold Processing Plant in the 1890's.
