Geelong Sports Museum (South Geelong)

Located at GMHBA Stadium in Kardinia Park, Geelong Sports Museum celebrates the rich sporting history of Geelong and the surrounding region. The museum explores everything from grassroots sport to local athletes who became national and international champions, with exhibitions, historic objects, films and hands-on interactive experiences.

The museum covers many different sports rather than focusing solely on Australian Rules football. Displays explore the origins of sport in Geelong, significant sporting personalities, community clubs, sporting innovations and memorable moments from the region's sporting history.

Interactive activities make the museum particularly suitable for families. Visitors can test their knowledge at the arcade-style Sporting Quiz, try a rowing challenge, learn sailing knots, create a customised photograph in the photobooth and step into the Commentator Booth to record their own commentary over footage of a sporting moment. There is also a theatrette showing sporting stories and footage.

Temporary and changing exhibitions complement the permanent displays. These have included exhibitions exploring Geelong's BMX history and the generations of supporters of the Geelong Football Club.

The museum is on the ground floor of the Joel Selwood Stand, near Gate 1 of GMHBA Stadium. Free public parking is available around the Kardinia Park precinct on non-major-event days, and South Geelong Railway Station is about 450 metres away.

The museum is wheelchair accessible and has a hearing loop, subtitled films, accessible all-gender toilets, wheelchairs available if required and sensory bags for visitors with sensory processing needs. Changing Places facilities are located adjacent to the museum.
