History:
Frankston Pier was first constructed in 1857 and was extended by 120 feet in 1863 following requests from local residents.
Further repairs and extensions were carried out during the nineteenth century. In the 1880s, the Frankston Brick Company improved access to the pier to assist with transporting bricks.
The arrival of the railway in Frankston in 1882 reduced the importance of the pier for transporting goods and passengers. By the early twentieth century, sections had deteriorated and required substantial repairs.
The pier has subsequently undergone numerous repairs and improvements. Major repair works were completed in April 2025, when Parks Victoria confirmed that the entire pier and lower landing had reopened to the public.
Fishing:
Frankston Pier is a popular location for recreational fishing. An artificial reef within casting distance attracts a variety of marine life.
A Victorian recreational fishing licence may be required for fishing unless an exemption applies. Fishing regulations, size limits and bag limits must be observed.
See Victorian recreational fishing information.
Safety:
- Children should be supervised closely, particularly near the edges of the pier
