Essendon Academy of Ballet (Airport West)

This school is strongly ballet technique based with other styles of dance such as Jazz, Contemporary, Hip Hop and Tap available.

For ballet classes, we take pride in being able to provide classes where the children are dancing with children their own age. The technique classes are capped at 15 for the junior school so that students receive appropriate one on one time, therefore better individual coaching

The school provides ballet classes in the Cecchetti system, an internationally recognised syllabus, for every age group up until the majors. We start with Kindy for 3-5 yr olds, Pre-Primary for 5 yr olds, Primary for 6 yr olds and then Grade 1 to 6. From here, students can either take the major dance syllabus stream of Intermediate, Advanced 1, Advanced 2 and Diploma or there is now a new level introduced through Cecchetti Ballet Australia - Dance Spectrum for students who are more interested in Choreography. There are exams for those interested.

There are numerous Jazz classes for children between the ages of 5 and 18. Tap is available for 6 yrs and up. Hip Hop, Contemporary and Lyrical classes are available for students from the age of 7 yrs.

The main aims of the Academy are:

To give a good basic technique to those students who are suited to train for a professional career in dance.
To ensure a high level of proficiency, together with a sense of enjoyment, in those students who are studying ballet for recreational purposes, so that they become disciplined, well mannered individuals who will be an asset to the community

Past graduates have gone on to the Australian Ballet School, The Australian Ballet Company, The Hong Kong Ballet and the Victorian College of the Arts.
