Eltham Bowling Club

Eltham Bowling Club

Eltham Bowling Club is a strong, competitive, yet friendly club, with around 140 members. The club has 2 greens: a tiff dwarf grass green, and a synthetic green, which allows all year round bowling.

Pennant
While social bowls is an important element of a bowling club's activities, playing pennant is the raison d'etre for Eltham as it is for most bowling clubs. Eltham enters sides in the Bowls Victoria Saturday and Tuesday Metropolitan competitions as well as the local night pennant competition run by the North East District Night Pennant Association.

Barefoot Bowls
We offer barefoot bowls sessions to the general public and any interested groups. These sessions are particularly appealing to social or family groups who want to have fun with a cheap day out on the bowling green. The dress code is as relaxed as the atmosphere and you don't need a lot of experience to have fun with the game.

We provide free basic bowls coaching and the use of bowls. We also provide bar service and make available our BBQ for your use as well as our kitchen facilities. All drinks must be purchased through our bar and you need to provide your own food. For a small charge of $10 per person you can enjoy playing barefoot bowls on our beautiful greens. The minimum size of groups for these activities is 20 bowlers.

During winter, the most suitable time for Barefoot Bowls is a Sunday afternoon. Our greens are not available on Saturdays due to club use. Similarly, they are not available on winter evenings because artificial lighting is not available. Note that during summer, evening play is very popular.

40/40 Bowls
40/40 is an exciting, fast-paced format of bowls, so named because each half of the game generally takes around 40 minutes to complete. The game has been designed to introduce new bowlers to the game of bowls, in a competitive yet social environment. 40/40 is aimed at the social and non bowling members. In fact, full club members are not permitted to take part.

There are 3 players on each team (ie. "triples") and each game is played over 2 sets of 6 ends. Each player rotates throughout the three positions in their side, and each side has a powerplay end which counts for double shots.

The Eltham Bowling Club has conducted several competitions in the 40/40 format

Social Bowls
Come along and join us for a great time of bowls and social interaction. The primary aim of social bowls is to have fun in the outdoors while getting some gentle exercise. Social bowls is a great starting activity for new bowlers as they learn the game. Each week small prizes are generally awarded to members of the winning team.

Generally two games of 10 ends in selected triples and/or fours are played. A break is taken between games - afternoon tea for games which start in the afternoon and lunch for games with a morning start time. The only dress requirement is neat casual with bowling shoes.

Visiting players are always welcome. During the summer season, games are on each Wednesday commencing at 10:30 a.m. During winter social bowls are on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 12.30 p.m.
