Darlington - Nuggets Flat

Nuggets Flat is a peaceful picnic area beside Mount Emu Creek in the small Western District township of Darlington.

The small reserve occupies the historic river-crossing area and provides an attractive place to stop beside the creek, enjoy a picnic and explore this quiet section of Darlington.

Mount Emu Creek winds past the reserve and provides habitat for birds and other wildlife. The creek is also known as platypus habitat, although sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Nuggets Flat is used regularly by the Darlington community for barbecues and gatherings.

There are no public toilets at Nuggets Flat.

Swimming:

The natural swimming hole in Mount Emu Creek at Nuggets Flat is used by locals when water levels and conditions are suitable. It is not a designated or patrolled swimming area, water quality is not routinely monitored and there are no lifesaving services.

Water depth and flow can change considerably following rain. Hazards may include slippery banks, submerged rocks, branches and other debris. Check the water carefully before entering, never dive or jump into the creek and supervise children closely. Avoid swimming during strong flows, following floods, when the water is discoloured or if warning signs are displayed.

Access for Dogs:

Dogs are allowed but must be kept under effective control. Keep dogs on a leash where signs require it.
