Coronet Bay Community Garden

Coronet Bay Community Garden

Coronet Bay Community Garden welcomes people of all abilities to join us in a happy and productive garden.

Community gardens provide social and physical benefits and fun (we always enjoy our coffee/tea & cake break).

We meet weekly on Thursday at 10am & every 2nd Sunday of the month at 10am.

The purpose of the Community Garden is to promote the interest and involvement of Coronet Bay residents in a Community Garden which provides recognised social and physical benefits and promotes good nutrition and mental health.

The Coronet Bay Community Garden is a non-profit organisation manned by volunteers to provide opportunities for developing physical and mental wellbeing through experiencing intergenerational and cultural social inclusion, fresh air and exercise, knowledge, and skills, and in the sharing and consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables. It offers a lovely place for the local community and visitors from further afield to enjoy and feel welcome.

Background: In January 2019 a group of enthusiastic locals with a keen interest in establishing a Community Garden met, a committee was formed, and ideas for effective planning and implementation developed. A suitable site considering access, space, water, toilets and shelter was allocated close to the Coronet Bay Hall. By July 2019, the planting of a native tree windbreak, fruit trees and vegetables in wicking plots commenced. By early 2022, the garden grew to include a hothouse, extensive mound with further windbreak planting, no-dig gardens, reflective garden, signage, preparation for another extensive windbreak, seating, and succession vegetable planting.

The Coronet Bay Community Garden continues to evolve and meet its many goals. This is being achieved by the tireless commitment from several volunteers who attended countless meetings, working bees and other activities, and willingly shared their skills, time and cheerful support.

The garden is located behind the Community Hall, at the end of Bantering Bay Road, Coronet Bay (near the BMX track and playground).

For casual visitors the garden is a delightful place with lots of different plants, many with excellent descriptions. There is a Alice in Wonderland theme running throughout the garden. There are tables and seats for rest.
