Corangamite Shire Fishing Guide

The Corangamite Shire has excellent spots to cater for all fishermen, from coastal, estuarine, river and inland lakes.

RIVERS AND ESTUARIES


Mount Emu Creek - shore fishing. Running through the Corangamite Shire from Skipton in the north and flowing into the Hopkins River near Purnim. Platypus may be sighted.

Curdies River - shore or boat fishing. The Curdies River at the mouth of Lake Purrumbete, entering the sea at Peterborough. Boat ramp, parking and picnic area at Curdievale. Speed restrictions apply in most areas.

There is an area for water sports.

Black fish, brown trout, eel.

Curdies estuary and River, Peterborough - shore or boat fishing

There is a ramp at the caravan park.

Bream, estuary perch, mullet, mulloway, Australian salmon.

Gellibrand River, Upper reaches - shore access.

Black fish and brown trout.

Gellibrand estuary, Princetown - shore or boat fishing

Bream, Estuary Perch, yellow eye mullet, brown trout, eel, mulloway and occasionally silver trevally.

COASTAL FISHING


There are great places to fish along the 12 Apostles coast. Take note of warning signs and weather conditions.

LAKES


CAMPERDOWN AREA


Lake Bullen Merri - shore or boat fishing. Recognised as Australia's premier Chinook salmon water with fish in excess of 5 kg.

Stocked with brown trout, rainbow trout, Chinook salmon and Australian bass.

Boats can be launched from the ramp at South Beach, Boats must be registered.

No camping is allowed at South Beach, however excellent accommodation is available within a few minutes drive.

Lake Purrumbete - shore or boat fishing. Only water catchment of chinook salmon and rainbow trout.

Stocked with brown trout, brook and rainbow trout, red fin, eel and chinook salmon.

Boats can be launched from the ramp at Lake Purrumbete Caravan Park.

The caravan park has all the facilities available for an enjoyable stay.

COBDEN


Cobden Lake - shore fishing.

Stocked with redfin and eel and rainbow trout each school holidays.

Lake Elingamite - boat fishing only

10 km drive from Cobden and can be accessed from the Cobden - Warrnambool Road or Cobden - Ecklin Road.

Stocked with brown trout, rainbow trout, redfin, eel and Chinook salmon.

There is a camping ground with no facilities, free camping is available for short stays.

Lake Mumbin - shore or boat fishing. Can be accessed from the Cobden - Ecklin Road.

Stocked with redfin and eels. No facilities available.

DERRINALLUM


Deep Lake - shore or boat fishing. Situated west of Derrinallum and maintained by a committee of management.

Stocked with brown trout, rainbow trout and redfin.

A well maintained camping ground with modest fees payable, toilets, barbecue and picnic facilities.

LISMORE


Lake Tooliorook - shore or boat fishing. Accessed from the Camperdown - Lismore Road.

Stocked with brown trout, rainbow trout, redfin and tench.

Well maintained camping ground with modest fees payable at Lismore café or to caretaker.

Toilets, showers, barbecue and picnic facilities.
